Tianzifang

Originally a residential and small factory area, today Tianzifang is an artsy area with shops, cafes, bars, restaurants, and is known for its Shikumen (stone framed door) houses and narrow alley ways with cute boutiques and galleries. Luckily this area still retains its gritty roots that give visitors a feel for real life in old Shanghai.

Finished in 1577 and opened to the public in 1961, this garden has remained a peaceful and relaxing place to take a stroll to enjoy classic Chinese architecture, sculptures, and rock gardens. In the heart of the French Concession, we’ll visit the former home of the fascinating Chinese artist Zhang Leping, who created the famous Sanmao character, one of the world's longest running cartoon characters. Zhou Enlai Former Residence

As the first Premier of the People’s Republic of China, Zhou Enlai served from October 1949 thru January 1976, and together with Mao Zedong was an important figure in the Communist Party’s rise to power.

Sinan Mansions

Built in the 1920’s and 1930’s, this group of European-style mansions once housed China’s elite, including both Zhou Enlai and Sun Yat-Sen. These days the area has been turned into a commercial district with shops, restaurants, bars, and a hotel.

Sun Yat-Sen Former Residence

Sun Yat-Sen was the first provisional president of the Republic of China and played an instrumental role in the overthrow of the Qing Dynasty. He is considered the founding father of China.

On your journey to/from the Shanghai airport, take the fastest commercial high-speed electric train in the world (called the Maglev). The trip takes a measly 7 minutes with speeds topping out at 430 kilometers per hour.
